A Sense of Achievement

March 24, 2007 – 9:54 pm

Many people have asked if it is worth it to profit so little from e-trading versus the amount of time and energy spent on the business. My items are sold at an average of MYR20 per piece only, yet there are still people who complain that my price is high, and at a conservative 10% profit margin, I only receive MYR2 per item sold.

Granted, I earn a lot more in my real world job but there is a vast difference in being an employee and an employer. As an employee, you do what you are told to do and get paid at the end of every month. However, as your own boss, even if your business is only a small online venture, every little decision falls on you. You decide what you want your business to be, how you want it to grow and where you want it to go in the future.

You get to test your business skills and judgment. And you get to see the results and challenge yourself to flourish the business. This sense of achievement is not easy to describe.

Every sale clinched is a step towards success. Every cent profited makes all the sweat and blood spent worthwhile. If you are your own boss, you bear the fruits of labour by yourself, for yourself.
