New Domain Name
March 15, 2007 – 7:29 pmI registered a new domain name today again. At only MYR0.99 for the first year and subsequent annual renewals at MYR55 it was too cheap to resist.
Registering was pretty fast. However, the payment was not presented clearly and I ended up writing a few emails to their Sales@xxx.com address, and instead of being attended to by Sales, my email to that address was in fact a Support ticket, to well, Support.
They replied my first ticket pretty fast. I wanted to make payment by PayPal, but at MYR0.99, I had to send USD0.29 which at today’s currency exchange rate, came to be RM1.01 instead.
Before I made my payment via PayPal, I asked them if there will be service charge to me if I were to pay by credit card. Well, my support ticket has not been answered at the time of writing.
This company uses WorldPay as their payment processor so if I were to pay by credit card, my transaction will be processed by WorldPay which I am not familiar with. So it is only natural that I wanted to know if I will be charged more than MYR0.99. I hate surprises
I was also given the option to bank in directly to their Public Bank account. I do have online access to both my Maybank and Public Bank accounts but my TAC and PAC, which are required to make fund transfer, are not activated so I cannot make payment. This is a safety measure against myself.
I could go to the bank but it was already late and I do not want to go to the bank anyway. Factor in the time and petrol. Besides, if I went to the bank counter or ATM to make the payment of MYR0.99, I would have to make an outstation call to the company in Penang, or fax the transaction slip to them or I could scan the slip and email to them.
Faxing would cost at least MYR0.30 and as for scanning, well, I do not have a scanner. So in the end, I paid via PayPal, my best option.
I think that this company has to put their payment information upfront on their site. Even for their PayPal email address, I had to write in and wait for a reply when they could easily integrate the PayPal shopping cart into their site.
It just so happens that I bought something that costs MYR0.99 only. Imagine if it was something more expensive. Don’t you think it is a hassle to make payments? One thing an online business needs is seamless payment to ensure that orders are duly paid up.
