Payment For New Domain Name
March 18, 2007 – 3:38 pmIf I thought that paying USD0.29 by PayPal was the end of the story and I can finally have my new domain name registered with Enom, well, to my surprise, that same night, I received a note from PayPal saying that the payment I initiated was declined. I was dismayed. I shot an email to Sales/Support asking them WHY it was rejected.
And at the same time, I tried to pay for it with my Public Bank Visa Debit card.
I have in fact shopped at various online stores overseas and everything had been smooth with the card. Unfortunately, in this case, I tried two times and at both times I received a message saying that my card issuer does not recognise my payment.
The next day at about 1pm, I received an email from this company informing me that my PayPal payment has been rejected and that I should try to pay via credit card.
If you remember, I asked WHY in my email the night before. Of course I already know that it has been declined so why the heck did they tell me that it was declined and not answer my question to the point by giving me a reason?
Again, I had to ask the same question, this time I added that PayPal is listed as an accepted mode of payment and I was told to pay USD0.29 and yet it was declined.
This time, another person replied. According to him/her, PayPal has charged them more than USD0.29 and therefore, they are unable to accept it. One would think that being an established company, they would know that PayPal imposes a fee of 3.9% + USD0.30 at the maximum to the recipient for some payments.
Obviously they had no idea, but I would think that a professional company would have absorbed whatever loss due to the mistake of their own staff. But that is another story.
So the only option left for me was to make a fund transfer via Public Bank ATM. I went there the same night. I have had the card since December, 2005 and it was my first use at the ATM. Anyway, I proceeded to key in the account number that I would like to transfer the amount of MYR0.99 to, and then the machine asked me to key in my NEW password. They did not give me an indication of whether the transfer was accepted or aborted.
I checked my balance but MYR0.99 is such a minor sum it was not easy to decipher if there was a transfer made or not. I looked for a print out of my last transactions but they do not have this option, unlike Maybank’s ATM.
After wasting time checking through all the options available, I went home to check my transactions online to discover that there was no transaction made. I only managed to transfer the sum the following day.
For payments made through bank transfer, we were required to show proof of payment. Because I did not want to fax it in, which would cost an extra MYR0.30 in the least and I do not have a scanner, I took a digital photo of the ATM slip.
Within minutes of sending my email with the image attached, I received an email confirmation that my order has been processed.
Phew! What a hassle it has all been. Just to pay MYR0.99 took me two days. All in all, it was not a very pleasant experience, sad to say. I am not happy that for only MYR0.99, I was given the runaround.
