Don’t Simply Click!

May 24, 2007 – 7:50 am

I know of one lady who is not that web savvy. She is always happy whenever she received an email whether from friends, family, strangers and even spam mail. The problem with such a person is that she doesn’t know if the links in the email that she clicks on are legitimate links or links that redirect her to some fraudulent websites.

Many a time, her husband, who is my friend, needs to clear up the computer of viruses and Trojans. She is lucky that her husband is a very technical person and never chides her for putting the files in the computer at risk, but it is still a lot of work no thanks to her habit of clicking on links that come through email and the attachment downloads.

I think people now know that it is not even safe to click on links or download files via email even if they were sent from people that we know. With the rampant scams and phishing attempts we know never to click on them especially when we compromise our financial information.

Imagine the mess I would have put myself through IF I had clicked on the links in the most recent PayPal phishing attempt. I dare not even think about it!
