“Nigerians” Invade Lelong

May 5, 2007 – 9:53 am

Previously, we’ve only ever heard of Nigerian Scams on eBay because eBay is an international auction marketplace. However, not too long ago, there has been reports that Lelong Sellers have also been approached by Buyers who were willing to pay an unrealistic price for items and requesting these items to be shipped to Nigeria.

The targets of these Nigerians are usually Sellers electronic gadgets like PlayStation, mobile phones, laptops or computer hardware. They do not really care if the items are second hand.

It’s no surprise that Nigerians have found Lelong to be a place to fish for new victims, although Lelong is a localised auction marketplace, unlike eBay. I think I have proven a couple of times, the research and time that these scammers put into searching for “leads”.

If you are a Seller and have been approached to sell your product at a too attractive price, just stop for a minute and think, why must someone pay you premium for an item that can be bought at only 10% of this offer price?
