PayPal - A Step Backwards
May 11, 2007 – 1:09 amFor those of us who anticipated that PayPal would live up to its promise of allowing Malaysians and residents of other countries who are also restricted from withdrawing PayPal funds directly to our local bank account, it is a major disappointment to realise that from today onwards we are required to link a US bank account with our PayPal in order to even receive payments.
F@RK we used to be able to do that with a credit card. And I do have a card linked. Why won’t it work anymore? New policy?
By the looks of it, definitely a step backwards. They rolled out a bunch of new things today including the ability for residents of more than 190 countries to send money fueled by credit card. And added support for new languages. As soon as you logged into your account, you will notice the new layout.
However, there is no news about any new restrictions. Yes, I see this a major restriction.
Another thing that I did was add a new address and transfer my credit card that is already on PayPal file to this new address. However, to do this, they require to verify my Credit Card with the three-digit security number found at the back of my credit card. Double F@RK! It returned an error message saying that my card can’t be verified.
Now what? Is it PayPal or Visa problem? Visa’s server crashed but that was last month! Is it still down? Seriously, I am sick of all this.

Hi Irene,
Let’s just hope it’s a technical glitch since they rolled out new features last night.
If it is still the same after a few days then a phone call to them is in order. They never reply email except with canned messages, from my experience.

Hi Irene,
I also got a reply. That’s great. Hope to be able to receive the payments as soon as possible before the 30-day time frame expires and the funds are returned to sender!
