Tiresome Self-Hosting

May 26, 2007 – 7:45 am

How time flies. I have self-hosted my WebStore for almost 2.5 years now *gasp* and self-hosted my blogs for almost half a year. While self-hosting sites allow us a lot more freedom to personalize and customize our our store or blog, what I don’t like is the fear that EVERYTHING could be lost or wiped out if there is a hacker or virus. If this happens, everything will be LOST. All the hard work will go down the drain.

Have you heard recently of the case where a hacker did something to the hosting company and all the websites that were hosting with them were defaced? I don’t know how that could have happened because I am not technical but it did happen and I *think* the sites were successfully restored, but not after wasting spending hours on them!

I am quite a careful person and try to make sure that my blogs and stores are backed up regularly as soon as I have made changes but sometimes after everything is done, it’s already very late or shall I say early, that I forget. And then only suddenly remember of my undone task when I have shut down my computer and lied down in bed and then I just have to get up and back up my files *sigh*

I long for the days on Blogger when I could just write as much as I like and free my mind from worry that my posts may go missing when I wake up. Free hosting is not that bad, you know?

Hello and welcome to my blog. I would love to receive your comments! If you wish to be updated on new content, do subscribe to my RSS feed on your feed reader or via email. Thanks for visiting!
