What Sort of Bank?
June 19, 2007 – 8:39 pmIt was so weird. This morning I went to a foreign bank in town because I wanted to buy something. It is not that I wanted to go to this particular bank but I went, even though it is quite a distance from my house, and traffic jam, because the other party is a customer of this particular bank so I thought I would make it easy for him.
I went and told the clerk that I wanted to buy something and he asked me if I was their customer. So I said I am not. Surprisingly, he said that he would not be able to sell it to me because they only serve customers and that they do not handle cash. All monies are directly debited from the customer’s account.
It’s that weird or what? It was the first time I heard of that. No wonder this bank is so small even though they have established their business so years in Malaysia. The inability to get license for expansion is one thing but with such business practices, it is not easy to gain support from the public.
You see, in my case this morning, I wanted to give them business but they did not want me, sad to say.
I wanted to be cheeky and rebut that if you do not handle cash then do you handle credit? Ahh but I had no mood after going there in vain. In the end, I went to my usual bank *sigh*
