Why Sellers Shill Bid

June 29, 2007 – 10:14 pm

I do understand why some people shill bid but I don’t know why they can do it to almost all their items. If they are unable and unwilling to sell their item below cost, then by all means start the auction at a reasonable price. Are they trying to escape from the higher listing fee?

While it is possible for a Seller to get away from shill bidding once or twice, I have come across a handful of Sellers who have adopted shill bidding numerous times each time their auction price is unable to meet their target price.

What is amazing is that their shill bidding user ID will even leave feedback to the selling ID. When this happens once too often, don’t you think that a discerning Buyer or a competitor selling similar items will not notice it?

Buyers are rather educated now. They do know that when they come across such cases, they have no qualms about reporting the Seller to the administrators, which is what responsible members of the community should do.

So, as a Seller, you may get away from shill bidding once of twice but not each time your item fails to fetch your desired price!
