Yahoo! Streamlines Further
June 20, 2007 – 7:32 pmLast month, Yahoo decided to close their Yahoo! Photos service to consolidate users to Flickr which they own. This month, they announced that they will be closing their North American Yahoo! Auctions which serve both America and Canada.
What is up with Yahoo! I do not know but I guess they want to concentrate on the services that bring in the moolah. Although the North American marketplace is closing, Yahoo! Auctions Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore will be business as usual.
With the retirement of the North American Yahoo! Auctions, I guess it will further strengthen eBay’s world market share in the auction business. Even before the door of Yahoo! Auctions closes, many similar marketplaces have sprout out. Let’s see how many can survive when even eBay is finding it hard going.
With the retirement of first, Yahoo! Photos and now Yahoo! Auctions, one wonders which Yahoo! service will be next. I hope it is not something that I am actually using.
