Distinguishing Imitations From Genuine Products

July 1, 2007 – 12:05 am

Online traders are getting bolder and bolder in selling imitations and PASSING THEM OFF AS GENUINE. It is not wrong to sell replicas but it IS wrong to sell unlicensed imitations and passing them off as genuine items and selling at a premium.

People who have bought a genuine item before would be able to tell the minute details after much scrutinizing but those who are buying this “brand name” for the first time would not know any better.

Therefore, it is imperative to do thorough research before making a purchase and to insist on Cash On Delivery transactions only, taking along trusted, knowledgeable friend.

Because of these Sellers, Buyers are shying away from buying expensive items online and this in return affects Sellers of genuine items. It is hard enough to sell expensive items online, without their business being indirectly jeopardised by fraudulent Sellers like these.

All is not lost, though. It is commendable that there are knowledgeable people who are willing to police the marketplace and lodge reports with the administrators and brand holders and also educate the general public, and in particular, potential Buyers.

One fine example showing the genuine and imitation car audio set can be found on this Lelong Forum Thread. Check it out.
