Invitation To Be PowerSeller
July 29, 2007 – 10:34 pmWe have seen many cases where all sorts of seemingly legitimate email have been sent to unsuspecting members in an attempt to phish for sensitive information. We don’t even know how many people actually lost control of their eBay, PayPal or other bank accounts and their money no thanks to these tactics. I shudder to think that I may one day accidentally click on the links in these emails!
And then I read about the software called Dark Mailer which could create any email header exactly the same like real companies and then send out these emails to a whole list of addresses in seconds.
Well, now that people are most careful about such email, they have changed their baits. They are now sending out email from “eBay” surprising Sellers that they have been upgraded to PowerSeller status. Incredible, isn’t it?
Now, these phishers are quite smart, but then not that smart at all because to be a PowerSeller, a Seller has to qualify in terms of sales volume for three consecutive months. Any Seller who receives such an email would know if he qualifies or not and if he (most probably not) does not, then he could straight away see through the phishing attempt.
What a no brainer!
