It’s All Because of The Greed!
July 3, 2007 – 1:38 amYou most probably remember me talking about a friend of mine who asked me for a personal loan. Like I said, he earns three times what I earn and yet he went into a bad financial situation. I advised him to manage his finances like running a company, since he is a senior manager, I liken his job to his personal financial planning so that he understands the subject better.
One of the things that ruined him is greed. He used to own a very large house, held stocks of blue chip companies and had insurance policies worth more than a hundred thousand dollars but all those came to naught when he became more and more greedy and trying to get some fast gains to cover his ever growing expenses. He even had a stack of credit cards which I do not understand why he needed them all in the first place. One or two cards would have been enough, isn’t it?
And then he would gamble at the races and lottery thinking that they would give him a quick extra buck over the weekend but that never materialized. I told him that since he is already holding a very good job to quit gambling and concentrate on his work. Why jeopardize his position just for some short thrills?
In the end, because of his greed, he lost his job, property, money, and most painful of all, his family. Fortunately, he believed me when I told him that’s not the end of the world. He could still pick up the pieces. Ten long months later, I found him a job and he has been working hard rebuilding his life. Let’s hope that he will not go back to his old ways!
