The Mexican Auto Insurance Experience
July 1, 2007 – 2:45 amSummer is upon us once again and almost everyone is on the road going on one vacation or another. My sister, who lives in Tennessee has earlier informed me that she will be crossing over the border to Mexico. Despite its proximity, my sister will be making her first visit there and thought that it was as simple as driving over.
Well, my sister is a foreigner and did not know that her American car insurance is not valid in Mexico. At the last minute, she found out from her employer that she will have to buy Mexican car insurance separately.
My sister complained to me because she did not factor in this extra cost when she was planning for their vacation and because of that, they have to delay their vacation for a week.
Luckily, the actual purchase of insurance is a pain-free experience since it could be done online and what she needs to do is to enter her vehicle information, pay for it online by credit card and then print out the policy. The whole buying procedure is almost instant which is just as well, since my sister does not have much vacation time left after the weeks’ delay!
My sister told me about her experience because she said it is important to purchase all the necessary insurance before going on a holiday. It is better to be safe and protected!
