What’s With The Pink Gift Wrapping?

July 25, 2007 – 9:25 am

Throughout my blogging career, I have written considerably on Nigerian Scam 419. I am quite passionate about the subject and read up a lot on the modus operandi because I have friends who were caught in these scams and in one extreme case, the victim died. No, the Nigerians did not kill him physically, but they emptied his bank account, gave him a mental and emotional spin and he was left a broken man and died of heartache and shame.

Yes, these things do happen and it is not a matter of how well educated one is. The connecting element among all the victims is actually GREEDINESS in capital letters. Of course, some people may not agree but this is my opinion.

While Nigerians or people utilizing this Scam 419 modus operandi, and may not be Nigerians per se, have been prowling eBay for years, they have now been targeting Lelong and even Craig’s List.

As long as you list something fairly expensive and as long as you have the words camera or cell phone or just about any electronic gadget and even electrical appliances, you will be targeted. There was a case where they even wanted a scam the owner of a wedding gown!

The current trend is to request the Seller to gift wrap the item in pink paper. I you receive a ridiculous offer and asking the item to be gift-wrapped in pink paper, you don’t even need to think of it, just trash it.
