Another Scam Mail

August 5, 2007 – 2:26 am

The other day, I received an email purportedly from “Ecobank PLC”. Well, I have never heard of this bank before prior to this email but I always take the trouble to Google for information and I found that Ecobank PLC is “the leading independent regional banking Group in West and Central Africa”. Did somebody say AFRICA?

What amused me so was the subject of the email: SCAM PAYMENT.

And the email went like this:

ECO-BANK PLC
ECOBANK/UNITED NATIONS 2007 SCAM VICTIMS COMPENSATIONS PAYMENTS.
DIRECTOR

ATTN: SIR/MADAM,

SCAMMED VICTIM/ $100,000 BENEFICIARIES.
REF/PAYMENTS CODE: ECB/06654 $100,000 USD

A long letter followed and with the word SCAM peppered everywhere, it is a wonder that there would be ANYONE who would respond to the email to claim his share of the scam payment.

Really, all these scam mails are rather funny if not for the fact that there will always be people who would fall victim to them. The only way is to empower people with education and knowledge!

  2. I get these constantly and I find it quite humorous to read some of the angles they come up with to entice you.

I wonder how people actually fall prey to these guys.

  3. Hi Bryan,

I am always amazed that there are people naive enough to believe all these emails. Sometimes I wonder don’t they read the papers at all?
