How Long To List?

August 14, 2007 – 6:50 am

I’ve got a whole bunch of items that I have listed and relisted on eBay and Lelong like forever. I read that a person needs to be exposed to an item for at least seven times before he is swayed to consider making a purchase.

In my case, I have already listed some of my items for at least one year. Some are not selling at all; some are in multiple quantities which I list one at a time. I have been wondering, how long shall I continue to list my items?

Do I pull them out already and just give them away as freebies to my loyal buyers? If my items are online and exposed for too long, some people may think that there must be something wrong with me if my items are not moving at all.

I am of two minds actually. If I do pull them off, it means that I am writing them off. I will not have a chance to sell them anymore. There have been times when a Buyer comes along after such a long time and I have almost given up hope and there have been times that an item is successfully sold after getting numerous joy bids.

What is the proper length of time to showcase an item? It really is hard to decide.
