Manufacturer’s Trick

August 15, 2007 – 12:07 am

Just now, I was chatting with a friend of mine about electronic goods. I actually wanted to know which digital camera is good, fits my budget and lives up to my expectations.

Anyway, my friend was telling me most of his electronic gadgets last only slightly more than a year and will die even without using! I also notice these happening to electrical products in my household. It does not matter how many times we use or do not use the gadget, it fails after thirteen months or so. This was the case with my friend’s branded laptop as well.

Compared to old technology, we could use our items for years and years.

So I have been wondering, is this the trick of manufacturers to produce items that don’t last that long so that we will keep replacing our gadgets, keep spending money and supporting the industry?

For normal electronic or electrical gadgets, we only get the standard 12-month warranty and this does not help if our purchases die from thirteenth month onwards, does it?
