Amanah Saham Bonds

September 11, 2007 – 1:12 pm

A couple of evenings ago, I received a phone call from my friend. He told me that the government is releasing a new batch of Amanah Saham Bonds. He wanted to know if it is worth buying. He told me that the dividend could go from 6 - 8%. I am not sure, because the previous market crash, these bonds fell from a purchase value of MYR1 to MYR0.80, or lower, I do not remember anymore.

And, I am not confident of letting a certain group of people to manage the funds whom we know from track record has been using funds like this to bail out GLCs. Why must I put my money on the line to be used to save somebody else’s ass right?

I concede that it is very tempting to buy, though, judging from the large crowds in banks on the day of release. Only thing is, I need reassurance that that the funds will NOT be misused.
