HSBC Internet Banking

September 21, 2007 – 9:08 pm

This morning, I was supposed to send MYR3132 to my friend via internet banking. Since my daily limit is MYR3000 for interbank transfer, I sent MYR3000 through my Maybank account. I tried sending the balance with my other account but it was rejected with the message that I have hit my daily limit. So that means even if the accounts are different, as long as the account holder is the one doing it, it does not make a difference if you have ten accounts with them.

Fine, I logged in to my HSBC internet banking portal to transfer the balance. Now, this is my first transfer and I have not used this before but previously, I have checked the account and I do know where to go to initiate a transfer.

Anyway, after entering every detail and even the security code and hitting the CONFIRM button, I received a message saying that they are unable to process my request as my transfer limit has be “reset to zero” and gave me two numbers to call. So I called the number on my screen to ask them to set my account limit so that I could make a transfer.

However, the lady told me that I would have to request for the telephone banking PIN and it will be sent to me via SNAIL MAIL (beat that!) and with the PIN, I have to give them another call and then only they would be able to set a transfer limit to my account. What the heck … why give me a number to call when they can’t help me? Just let me know on the screen to request for a telephone banking PIN, right?

I asked if I could set this limit at the ATM and they said no. Duh… talk about going backwards in technology. Yes, I know, it’s all about security but not when it inconveniences. And why is it that no one told me that I would have to get the telephone banking PIN and then set the transfer limit? I told the counter clerk that I wanted internet banking and she told me that I could use it as soon as my account was opened. Yeah, right! What is the meaning of internet banking when all I could do was log in to check my balance?

And if I have known of this procedure I would have got everything done with but no, I have to find it out for myself and now I would have to remember to send the balance to my friend tomorrow. GGGrrrr
