Woman Sues iPhone

October 4, 2007 – 5:25 am

I just read a news article on CNN about a woman who bought an iPhone when it was newly released and then now that iPhone is slashing prices by $200, she is suing the company. Hah… after all the hoo-hah over the iPhone, are users happy with the Phone?

Before the iPhone was released, I too got caught in all the marketing hype. I thought that since the iPhone would only reach Malaysian shores in 2008, I would participate in contests that are offering iPhones as prizes. However, I have been disappointed time and again. More often than not, these contests ended up giving out iPhoney instead.

Anyway, after reading today’s article, I just realised one thing. My phone is actually MORE expensive than the iPhone! At the time of purchase in mid-June, 2007 the Nokia E61i was retailing at MYR1799. It is still around this price by the way except that now, stores are bundling more freebies with the phone *sigh*

Based on the average median exchange rate between USD and MYR at that point in time, MYR1799 divided by 3.45 is approximately US$520. Yerrrr the 4GB iPhone was only $499 while the 8GB iPhone was $599 and now $399.

iPhone? What’s the big deal? I’ll put that down to marketing hype. :-(
