Ultra Mobile Personal Computers (UMPC) & Laptops

November 17, 2007 – 6:16 pm

When I was at the Pameran Komputer last evening, I also saw a couple of UMPC (Ultra Mobile PC). One of them is the Ruvo Avox A65U1 while the other was Fujitsu LifeBook U1010.

I tell you, if money is of no concern, I would have bought either one. The Ruvo Avox was selling at RM3,799 and the cradle/docking at RM388 however, I was told that if I buy both, I would be entitled to a discount.

Meanwhile, Fujitsu’s U1010 was selling above RM4000. That’s pretty out of my budget already considering that I do not own a laptop. I wouldn’t mind the small size if I had a laptop already. My friend told me that he saw this in LowYat Plaza as well but I don’t remember the price he mentioned to me. Maybe they are selling it cheaper too.

The cheaper HP Pavilion TX1316AU tablet PC zaps batteries and the screen will not be comfortable for me to look at for long hours. I wish that I could take a look first before placing a RM100 deposit. Since I can’t try it out, I am not going to risk my money.

On the other hand, the Fujitsu-Siemens Esprimo U9200 which has a long battery life, a matte screen (but I was told is not widescreen) seems like my ideal laptop except for the fugly design and even fuglier price tag; RM4188 AFTER discount! Again, they do not have a display unit. How to buy like that???

My friend keeps telling me that I don’t NEED a laptop or UMPC. Ya, it’s true but it would be good to have! *sigh*

  3. Hi Daniel,

Thanks for coming by to inform of your sale. I’ll have to think about it. RM2600 is not a small sum.
