eBay Phising Attempt

March 25, 2008 – 10:34 am

After getting the PayPal phishing mail, I received an eBay phishing mail pulak…. Check this screenshot. First thing that alerted me was that this email was sent to “undisclosed-recipients”. A real email from eBay will always be sent to the email that you have registered your account with.

The first line in the message should address me by my real name and then User ID. In this case, it was addressed to (You). In the TEXT section, a legitimate message sent through eBay will always have your user ID and in this one, it was left blank.

Also, according to this message, the person bought something from me three weeks ago. According to the User Activity, this user did not bid on any of my items for the past 90 days. So, you can make your own conclusion already.

I believe that clicking on the yellow RESPOND NOW button would jeopardise my user ID and password. Like I mentioned, legitimate or not, just log in to your account directly via your web browser and if the message is legit, it will be there.
