A Successful Bid or BIN Is A Contract To Purchase

June 30, 2008 – 2:05 pm

The other day, a friend sent me a message saying that he bought an item on eBay though Buy It Now option. Well, I never will willingly click on Buy It Now to purchase an item. I prefer to bid and wait with the chance of snagging a deal. Of course I may lose in a bid but I rather lose that pay for an item unnecessarily.

Anyway, back to my friend, after he used the BIN option, he told me that he does not want to pay for his purchase as he says that he just found out that shipping is way more expensive than he would be willing to pay.

I told him that a successful bid or a successful purchase through Buy it Now is a contract to pay for the item and since he already clicked on BIN, he would have to be a gentleman and pay the amount requested by the Seller.

When I first started to bid on items and purchase at online marketplaces, a friend, a veteran in online buying, advised me to ask the Seller all questions before bidding. Top questions would be the condition of the item, what is included in the sale, shipping fees and handling cost, if any.

Of course, you can try to back out of a transaction. However, if the Seller is not in a good mood, you may be blacklisted and reported to the administrators.
