Work From Home Blues

I was feeling a little down lately especially after meeting some of my friends who seem to be doing really well in life and I had a chat with a friend and I told him that I could never measure up to these people because I don’t even own a power suit or a pair of high heels. I said I work from home and it is very boring without colleagues and such. It takes a lot of discipline to work from home and one could get sucked into a “holiday mode” and be unproductive.

My friend told me that I should be happy that I can earn a living at home without having to go anywhere, without having a boss breathing down my back and I basically could do whatever I want with my time.

I may envy my friends and what they seem to be but then the grass is always greener on the other side. How would I know about the work pressure that they may face in their workplace or the office politics that they have to endure?

Come to think of it, it is true that I do not know. And my life, and working environment suddenly seem way better than many people. I may not have the chance to wear any power suit or climb the corporate ladder but I am the one who dictates my life 24 hours a day and that is something many people are unable to do because they have sold a third of the day to their employers.
