CIMB Cheque Cleared At Last

July 24, 2008 – 12:46 pm

My CIMB cheque has cleared at all. Let’s do a little calculation and see how CIMB f@rked up big time this time.

This cheque was issued on 26th June, 2008 and deposited into my CIMB account on the same day and it was shown as cleared by the issuing bank on 30th June, 2008.

I update my account today and the amount is finally reflected in my account dated 23rd July, 2008. Which means to say that it took the bank, CIMB, the second largest bank in Malaysia, a month to clear a cheque.

And this was a Bank Islam cheque, issued in Kuala Lumpur while I am in Ipoh. How long would it take to clear an outstation cheque like this? Three days, tops. In this instance, it took CIMB almost THIRTY DAYS to clear my cheque.

Tell me, how would a business person caught in such a situation feel?

  2. According to my inside sources, the company who CIMB outsourced to handle their cheques got into a huge mess with their cheque scanning mechanism or something. That’s why it took so long to clear those cheques. You’re lucky it’s just a month. Some people still didn’t get their cheques cleared from 2 months ago.

  3. OMG Afif, thanks for your feedback.

I say, all of us who are affected should band together and demand compensation from CIMB.

I know there are people who got into a mess because they issued cheques without having the supposed funds in their account!

  6. Hi Mickey,

So it looks like this problem is still not settled yet! Brace yourself. Some of us waited a month or two for our cheques to clear!

Provide as much information as possible to the bank so that they could clear yours manually as soon as possible.
