CIMB Cheque System Down
July 5, 2008 – 9:48 amI was expecting a cheque of RM1000 which was issued on 24th June, 2008. After waiting and waiting and still not gotten the funds cleared, I asked the sender to provide me with details of the cheque so that I could make enquiries.
The sender had checked with his bank and found that the funds had cleared on 30th June, 2008 already. That was a long time ago! So I was a little concerned as RM1000 is certainly not a small amount to go missing!
With the faxed copy of the receipt provided by the issuing bank, I went to CIMB to enquire. Guess what they told me? Apparently their cheque system was down since 24th June, 2008 and that I am not the only person waiting for my funds.
I felt incredulous. 24th June, 2008 was ages ago in banking terms. They did not even have the sense to put up a notice at the bank or at the ATM screen to inform us that their system has been down. Down for so long also nevermind but at least keep us updated, right?

I think you should bring out an issue with the bank. Suppose after the 2nd day for local cheque clearing you issue a cheque and because of non clearing of your paid in cheque, your account will be bounce and charge RM100 for insufficient fund althought is the faulth of bank as under Bank Negera ruling the bank is to do their part of clearing.

In my case, I am receiving the cheque and I did not even know that the system has been down. I thought that the person who issued the cheque has yet to issue it so I waited for a few days.
Then only I asked and was told that the cheque was issued long ago!
