“PayPal Only” Idea Scrapped For eBay AU

July 16, 2008 – 11:43 am

eBay Australia has announced that they will not implement a PayPal only accepted mode of payment for sellers on eBay Australia. This was at first implemented as an experiment and I think that should it run successfully, eBay would have implemented it on various other platforms of their auction marketplaces around the world.

Of course they denied they have such an intention but if they do so, none of us would have any say but to comply or be banned from trading on eBay. Boy, are we glad that eBayers in Australia and those who trade there have made enough noise and voiced their dissatisfaction loudly that eBay has finally listened.

However, although PayPal will not be the sole mode of accepting payment, it will be a compulsory alternative that all Sellers must offer to Buyers. This would be in line with their policy on eBay UK.

Well, the problem is that Sellers do not like payment additional fees to PayPal on top of fees to eBay. Most of us aren’t even profiting that much from trading on eBay and all these fees imposed will eat into our profit and render our business activity in eBay no longer viable.
