Lelong Launches SuperBid Wednesday
August 17, 2008 – 11:20 amLast week, Lelong announced the launch of SuperBid Wednesday, which they claimed that for the first time in Malaysia, Malaysians would get to experience live bidding online. The first SuperBid Wednesday starts on 20th August, 2008 from 12 noon to 1pm.

I took the chance to preview their website and I have to say that it’s an innovative idea by Lelong to come up with SuperBid Wednesday, helping to build the confidence of the masses to bid on items online. Yes, there are still people who prefer to shop at their neighbourhood store, even though it may be a low priced item. Online shopping could be addictive so hopefully, more people would have no qualms shopping online in time to come.

While I think that SuperBid Wednesday is a great idea, where most items, if not all, will have a starting bid of RM1 only, I personally would only prefer to watch on the sidelines and not participate in the auctions. With a bidding window of one hour only, it could create such an excitement that bidders would end up paying for the item at a price higher than market value. This is especially dangerous for people with a competitive nature. They get sucked into a bidding war way too easily.
