Guaranteed Capital Return

September 7, 2008 – 8:42 pm

My bank called me up the other day trying to sell to me a new investment product. They provide guaranteed capital return and the projected return is 8.1%. However, we need to lock our money with them for three years.

Three years is fine but I do not like it that I would not know how much I will be getting. 8.1% is only PROJECTED. It could be more, it could be less, or it could be none. They did mention that even if the fund loses money, we would all still be getting back out capital 100% but hey, I hate the fact that they have the license to collect our funds to do business.

This kind of business, everyone knows how to do, you see, but if we were to collect our capital like that, we would be charged with some sort of law against Bank Negara. I turned them down. I don’t think I will ever choose this option to invest as I am just not comfortable with it.
