ICICI Bank: MayBank - Important Message

March 5, 2009 – 8:58 pm

I received an email message today from ICICI Bank with the subject line "MayBank - Important Message" which is obviously a phishing attempt. Besides the fact that this email was sent to my "junk" email address which is not on file with Maybank, as far as I know, Maybank does not call itself MayBank.

This email mentioned that I was using the same credit card on two accounts with MayBank and that now, my account has been limited. I have to request for TAC by clicking on a link from the email and provide them with some information so that Capital One Bank would check on it and if nothing is out of order, my account will be restored.

Oh, I am so scared. We don’t even have Capital One Bank here in Malaysia. These scammers should really do their homework better. Besides, we must never click on links that are in email, not especially when these email messages are purportedly from financial institutions, including PayPal and eBay.
