Getting A Piece Of Vancouver 2010 Olympic History

November 4, 2009 – 9:33 pm

Canada will be hosting Olympics 2010, yep, that’s next year. But before the games have ended or even started, torch bearers are already putting up their torches for sale on eBay and Craigslist. Some of these sellers have not yet even used their torches to run, but they are already looking for interested parties to book their torches.

From what I read, there are a total of 12,000 torches made just for the occasion which will span 106 days. Torch bearers who wish to keep their torches have to pay $350. It’s up to them whatever they want to do with their torches once they have used them for their part of the relay run.

This image that I have enclosed in this post belongs to eBay seller, douramakos, who deals exclusively in Olympic collectibles and memorabilia. It does not look like he’s a torch bearer himself.

Sellers for Vancouver Olympic relay torches on eBay and Craigslist are asking for $2000 – $2500, whether it is worth it or not, it’s up to the buyer to decide. But don’t forget, there are 12,000 in total in Canada.

  2. Strange, you can keep it or not; but you pay to keep it….geesssssssssss. So if you opt not to keep it and pay the Olympic Committee $350.00 what do they do with it?

I used to love to watch the Olympics when I younger; but anymore not so much. It’s all very commercialized and I’ve not believed things were fair in many years.

When I did watch, I always preferred the winter over the summer. They go on for way way too long in my opinion. The countries trying to outdo each other with the ceremonies get’s old in my opinion. The ceremonies take away from the idea of individuals giving their best.
