November 9, 2009 – 6:05 pmI had the opportunity to meet up with my old school mates a couple of days ago and it was a pretty weird experience for me because even though I spent a considerable amount of time with them growing up, I failed to keep in touch with any of them since graduating from high school. Moreover, most of my friends are already mothers and I couldn’t find a mutual topic of interest. Although there are a handful of them who went into motherhood really early and their children are already schooling, most are mothers to babies and toddlers.
Hearing them chat and exchange notes on parenting, I felt that parents these days are more informed on how to raise their children. I know my parents raised us by trial and error. My friends, and parents of our generation, are web savvy and they search for information online and join discussion boards.
On top of that, people nowadays have greater income power and they could give the best to their kids, buying chemical-free products only. My friends are really into environmentally friendly Baby Bedding sets, bedding sets made from eco-conscious facilities. When I was growing up, my parents just made sure that the sheets were clean.
Of course, if and when I do have children of my own, I too would want to give them something better than what I had.
