Setting Up An iPhone App Business

November 8, 2009 – 8:24 pm

As an iPhone user, it did cross my mine to start a business selling iPhone apps. It doesn’t matter whether an iPhone app is really useful or downright silly, there surely are people who would buy them and install them on their iPhone, if only to try it out or to write a review and get an reimbursement on the purchase. Most iPhone apps are really cheap at only $0.99, hence their popularity.

However, I am really technologically challenged and do not even know how to go about creating iPhone apps. In fact, I sometimes face problems USING iPhone apps. Moreover, as an iPhone user as well, all the apps installed on my iPhone are free so I really cannot see how people can justify spending money on iPhone apps, even if they are only $0.99 each, unless they are exceptional.

Well, if you have the money to spare, there’s a guy on eBay selling off his iPhone app business with 87 apps in its inventory, all already listed on Apple iPhone app store. And the starting bid for it is a cool US$100,000. I take it that this price, or higher, would include the whole iPhone app business inclusive of two months of technical support for the buyer.

Whether the business is worth this much is not for us to say unless due diligence is carried out but I really take my hat off to the owner for his ability to let go of his baby, for a price, of course.
