PayPal: Most Phished Brand In Feb 2010

Avira released a report on the most phished brands last month and found that although there was a significant drop in the instances where PayPal was used to phish unsuspecting internet users, it was still the leading brand, ahead of eBay, Facebook, HSBC Bank and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

You know, I always say that no matter how careful and web-savvy we are, we cannot take chances. For websites like eBay and PayPal and other financial websites, if they want to reach out to their customers, they would do it via their internal messaging system. Even so, they will never ask users for their log in credentials, especially not over the phone.

PayPal spells money and as long as they dominate online payment services, they will remain as one of the most phished brands.
